I Peter 5:10 (NIV) And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Learn the lessons in times of setbacks is the key to being successful in life.

Everyone feels shocked, angry, upset and a myriad of other emotions when they lose their job, or a relationship ends, when a loved one passes away or a personal goal, we’ve been working for slips out of reach.

All of us at one time or another can feel that our level of success in life is minimized by the problems and setbacks we may experience in life.

Your problems and setbacks don’t determine the shape and direction of your life. What problems and setbacks do, however, is reveal your character.

They show you how we respond to pressure, trials, disappointment, and failure. They reveal what level of resolve you possess; whether or not your content to play the role of a victim; and whether you’re willing to risk again after initial failure.

In other words, they diagnose your shortcomings and call you to positive change.

Always remember setbacks are character builders for you and your future in life.

The hardest part about coping with any negative experience is the feelings it generates in us. It’s the hurt, sadness, guilt, embarrassment, rejection, humiliation and sense of loss that can feel so overwhelming we fear it will destroy us.

Hiding your feelings, avoiding your disappointment, pretending that you are okay, are all ways of trying to keep the hurt you really feel at bay so that you don’t have to hurt so much.

Problems and setbacks are the crucibles of character formation, and they are perspective checks–times we pause and evaluate what’s truly important in life. So, don’t get easily discouraged when problems come your way.

When we are faced with something painful, our first response is often to try to hide our true feelings. We want to put on a courageous face so that we don’t appear to be struggling.

We are more concerned with how others see us than with our own well-being. Always remember if you don’t let it break you, it has the potential to make you.

Point ponder

Don’t let life get you down, always trust God, that things will get better. Decide what you want, what is right for you, and take a step in that direction. My great grandmother would often say to me, “If you can take it, you can make it”.
