Word for the day "What does the Lord have to say about Incest"?
Leviticus 18:6 (MSG) “Don’t have sex with a close relative. I am God.
Believe or not even in the 21st-century people are still actively engaged in incestuous relationships.
I’ll never forget the night reading the story of a Pastor who was listening to Chuck Swindoll address about ten thousand Christians.Right in the middle of his message, he heard a statement that virtually sucked the air right out of the room.He proclaimed, “I know some of you are having sex with your children. And I’m telling you to stop it.I’m asking you to stop it. You must consider the impact on your child. You must stop having sex with your children.”Why on earth would he say that? Because he was the pastor of a church and heard the confessions of people who’d been involved in incestuous relationships. It is reported that the trauma of child abuse rewires parts of the brain in both function and structure. The effects are quite serious. The abnormalities can last right through adulthood, leaving the victim with such problems as aggression, poor emotional control, memory and attention disorders, and serious mood and personality disorders.
The statistics surrounding incest is staggering and must be addressed now.
Here are some statistics that should be familiar to us all, but aren't, either because they're too mind-boggling to be absorbed easily, or because they're not publicized enough. One in three-to-four girls and one in five-to-seven boys are sexually abused before they turn 18, an overwhelming incidence of which happens within the family. These statistics are well known among industry professionals, who are often quick to add, "and this is a notoriously under-reported crime."Incest is a subject that makes people outraged. The word alone causes many to squirm, and it's telling that of all of the individual and groups of perpetrators who've made national headlines to date, virtually none have been related to their victims. They've been trusted or fatherly figures (some in a more literal sense than others) from institutions close to home, but not actual fathers, step-fathers, uncles, grandfathers, brothers, or cousins (or mothers and female relatives, for that matter). While all abuse is traumatizing, people outside of a child's home and family. It must be prayed for and talked about with our children and families period.
Point to ponder
The nature of this sexual sin is such that all of us would rather leave it in silence. But we simply cannot. Therefore, I repeat what Chuck Swindoll said that night: “You must stop having sex with your children.” And I would add, “I beg you to get the help you need.”This is the first time I have ever written on this matter and it was sincerely not an easy post but necessary. Our Leadership team is especially thankful for those of you who provided financial donations and support in the month of June 2018 by partnering with us in efforts to advance the kingdom of God in this 21st century season: Special thanks to Mr. William Wilson, Ms. Annette Straker, Mr. David Straker, Mr. Kenneth Washington, Mrs. Shakeema Fraser-Lowe, Mrs. Cynthia Waiters-Artis, Ms. Monique Williams, Ms. Karleasa McCoy, and Ms. Gertrude Scott.
