Word for the day "Called to stand alongside"
John 13:34 (NKJV) A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
We are serving a divine purpose when we stand alongside others in their journey.
In the divine sense of things, we are called to walk alongside others in our family and friendships. We are called to come alongside one another to help each other succeed in their lives and ways, even more specifically to walk according to God’s ways.Be ever mindful, that the ultimate counselor in a person’s life is the Spirit of God (John 14:16). While God will use us in one another’s lives, we should never presume to be the ultimate authority taking on a role not intended for us in our journey.If we’re truly going to make a difference in people’s lives, we need to guide them toward God and His ways. Let’s remember the ultimate Source of wisdom, God Himself.While other sources, like the fields of sociology and psychology, might offer some help, but just as important we need to run it all through the timeless grid of Scripture.
We are not self-sufficient, we must look out for one another like our life depends on it.
We also serve others by making sure we continue in faithfulness in our own lives. Self-neglect and irresponsibility impose an unfair burden on your brother and sister in Christ, because of our need to be consistent and responsible to help others. We must also be responsible to help and care for ourselves in helping others.The Kingdom of God is not a place of self-dependence. It’s time we stop ascribing to those lies we’ve been embracing and many of us practicing for so long.God faith is not each person looking out for him or herself. The Kingdom of God is a place of interdependency.When you share the pain and problems of others, you’re fulfilling the law of love. Our burdens bring us together in a divine manner.As you call on others to help you make it through your pain, you will find your love and appreciation evolving in a profound manner.Remember, your weaknesses call forth other’s strengths in the divine scheme of God. And when others call on you, you can be an agent of God’s mercy and grace, looking for nothing in return.
Point to ponder
Do you know someone who is under a heavy burden currently? What practical way can you come alongside that person and help him or her?Prayerfully consider what God may be calling you to do, then step forward and do it. Coming alongside others can be discouraging if you lack realistic expectations. No one is perfect or will ever fully arrive.We are all a work in progress. We serve others with humility when we remember that about ourselves. We extend grace when we remember this truth about others.
