Word for the day “We are on our post”
We here at Grace and Truth are in prayer with people around the country that are demanding justice for young Adam Toledo
A 13-year-old killed by Chicago police. Body camera footage released in April contradicted the official police version of events. As petition starter Miguel Mendoza says, "We want the police officer to be held accountable for not only killing this 13-year-old boy but for lying about the events that took place." 13-year-old Adam Toledo was shot when he was being chased by a police officer. The police chased him down an alley where he was told to stop and turn around with his hands up. Video footage shows young Adam Toledo complied and had his hands up (unarmed) when the police officer decided to shoot and kill him.
The police officer lied and said that Adam Toledo refused to comply and that he was armed. The bodycam footage that was released shows us the truth. Since the conviction of Derek Chauvin in the George Floyd killing from last year until now, at least 64 people have died at the hands of law enforcement nationwide. Black and Latino people account for more than half of those killed. We know that not all police are bad, we support and we love our law enforcement front line sheroes and heroes, we are just saying there must be something done to stop these atrocities.
The most recent being April 21st Andrew Brown Jr., 20-year-old Daunte Wright, Michael Leon Hughes, 32, a Black man shot to death on March 30 after, the police say, he used a Taser on a Jacksonville police officer responding to a domestic dispute in a motel; Iremamber Sykap, 16, a Pacific Islander killed on April 5 as he fled from the Honolulu police in a stolen Honda Civic; and Anthony Thompson Jr., 17, a Black teenager in Knoxville, Tenn., killed by the police on April 12 in a high school bathroom after reports that a student had brought a gun onto campus.
We are on our post and using our platform to remain prayerful and being agents of change in our country. For Black men, the lifetime risk of being killed by police is 1 in 1,000. For Latino men, it is 1 in 1,800. God bless you all and stay safe, take care of yourself and each other.
