Word for the day “Learning to manage my emotions”

Proverbs 29:11 (NKJV) A fool vents all his feelings, [a]But a wise man holds them back.

IN YOUR DEVELOPMENTAL PROCESS, LEARNING TO MANAGE YOUR EMOTIONS IS IMPERATIVE.

Who is in charge of your emotions? Perhaps you are, or have you formed the unreliable habits of letting other people or stressful situations determine the quality of your thoughts and the direction of your day? If you are wise and if you’d like to build a better life for yourself and your loved ones, you’ll learn to manage your emotions before your emotions manage you. Human emotions are highly volatile, decidedly unpredictable, and often unreliable.

Our emotions are like the weather, only far more irrational. So, we must learn to live by faith, not by the ups and downs of our own emotional roller coasters. How do you live your life as a child of God?

WE MUST ENDEAVOR TO LIVE BY OUR FAITH IN GOD, NOT BY OUR UNRELIABLE EMOTIONS.

People live more by their feelings more than anything else much of the time. I believe this is true because if we observe by listening and watching, we’ll hear and see people talk about how they feel more than just about anything else. This is our challenge as we grow in the Lord. To know the difference between being led by our emotional feelings or by the promptings that are from the Lord.

Sometimes you will probably be gripped by a strong negative feeling. Carefully examine it, test it and turn it over to God.

Your emotions will inevitably change; God will not. So, trust the Lord completely, and observe those negative feelings slowly go away. Emotional people make big mistakes when they base decisions on how they feel rather than processing their feelings with God and what they know is the right thing to do. We have to learn how to live beyond our feelings and do what’s right even when we feel wrong.

This is not an easy endeavor by no stretch of our imagination, however, it’s worth doing some inquiry and investigation.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ("EI"), ALSO KNOWN AS "EQ",

Is the ability to harness your emotions in sensing, understanding, and responding adeptly to social cues in your environment. It is often referred to as the "common sense" that allows one to relate to people and get along in the world. This common sense, or Emotional Intelligence, is what every leader uses to make pivotal decisions, plan projects and initiatives, solve problems, interact with clients, set performance expectations, communicate feedback, and interact with colleagues of all levels.

As a leader, you have most likely spent significant time developing your intellectual, analytical, and logical thinking abilities, while investigating the latest leadership and management theories/tools to improve your performance. These are all important IQ-related criteria, but they are limited because research has shown that a measure of EI is a far better predictor of success than IQ.

While your IQ will remain stable for most of your life, you can develop and perfect the competencies associated with EI to achieve higher performance as a leader.

 POINT TO PONDER

Learning how to live under the leadership of God and trusted time-proven resources such as counselors, and advisors have been one of the greatest challenges of my life. Sometimes, I get it right and sometimes I get it wrong. But I realize now more than ever that my destiny is at stake, and it’s time to let the Lord teach me (John 14:16-17). It’s time to make changes and it all starts with you and it can start today.

Have a great week precious and blessed people of God.

Quote: Jim Elliot “I may no longer depend on pleasant impulses to bring me before the Lord. I must rather respond to principles I know to be right, whether I feel them to be enjoyable or not”

Prayer: Gracious Father, you are my (our) strength and my refuge. As we journey through this day, we will encounter events that cause us emotional distress. Lord, when we are troubled, let us turn to You. Keep us steady, Lord, and in those difficult moments, renew a right spirit inside our hearts. In Christ name, Amen
