Word for the day "Make a covenant with your eyes"

Job 31:1 (NIV) “I made a covenant with my eyes, not to look lustfully at a young woman. 2. For what is our lot from God above, our heritage from the Almighty on high?

The onset of sin in our lives can often originate from the subtlety of an unguarded look.

We live in a Visual Society, where almost everything has gone digital making it possible to access information through the Internet quickly.

In our world today, there are YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and thousands of apps to feed our eyes.

Your eyes are one of the gateways to your soul, so guard them seriously, lest they cause you to sin against God, and causing spiritual harm to yourself.

Satan will tempt you from any angle he can, and your eyes are no exception. Remember how Satan got Eve to look at the forbidden fruit.

Genesis 3:6 says, “So, when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.” (Genesis 3:6).

Did you know? A lustful look is the beginning of most sins. It was an unguarded look that led to the fall of Achan (Joshua 7) into covetousness and King David into adultery ( ( II Samuel 11).

A covetous glance soon leads to covetous thoughts, which soon lead to covetous plans, which soon lead to covetous actions.

What are you looking at these days people of God? These examples reveal the various images that can captivate our lives and destroy our destiny.

It is imperative we learn how to guard our destiny, by practicing self-care principles.

Job, therefore, had determined to cut off the sin of covetousness at its root, by promising himself never even to look at a single woman in a lustful way.

This covenant with his eyes, he rhetorically asserts, will inevitably guard him against lustful thoughts about other women.

By the way, today’s message provides principles and practices for men and women. Job’s personal commitment to overcome a besetting sin of almost every man is convicting and convincing.

But it is also encouraging because he made such a covenant which means that it is possible to fulfill his end of the agreement with God.

Believer know this: it is possible, although it will require self-denial and constant self-watch to overcome the sin of lust and the sabotage of self.

In reality, it will require a sober and self-searching covenant with your heart, before God? Yes, it will! Will it mean giving up casual glances and lustful thoughts?

Yes, it will! But it is possible. Unfortunately, we live in a world today, where both our seniors and young alike are constantly feeding their eyes with dangerous images.

These visions eventually affect their lives and pull them away from the purposes of God. Today’s message is just to say “Watch what is unseen” The Devil is still seeking whom to devour (I Peter 5:8).

Fix your eyes on things that put you in a position to maximize your purpose to the Lord. You must guard your eyes lest you fall into temptation and sin against God.

Jesus said in (Mathew 5:28), that, if you look on a woman or man lustfully, you commit adultery in your hearts.

It might just be a lustful glance. It might only last a few seconds, but it has serious implications for all of us.

Point to ponderSo, the self-reflecting questions that Job’s integrity puts before us is this:

• Do I love God enough to forego the temporary and deceitful pleasures of lustful stares, to fix my gaze upon God?
• Am I willing to enter a personal covenant with God today?
