Word for the day "It's our turn and it's our time"
Approximately three weeks of protests over the death of George Floyd we saw a decline of violence and fewer conflicts between police and protesters.
The Minneapolis Medical Examiner’s preliminary report said George Floyd had “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation.”
Results from an independent autopsy make clear that Floyd died from asphyxiation. We remain prayerful for the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery.
This time of unprecedented challenges, curfews, and conflict is still happening in major US cities, but thousands of people peacefully defied them, protesting late into the night.
However, consequences from days of destructive chaos are still being realized even around the world.
It has been reported that Australia's Prime Minister has called for an investigation after two of the country's journalists were attacked last week Monday, June 1st by police during a protest in Washington.
We see the impact on social media platforms where Facebook reported it has shut down pages and accounts associated with a far-right group whose members were discussing bringing weapons to protests.
Even Twitter made a similar move last week when it removed an account of a white supremacist group posing as Antifa activists.
Be advised, the US Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams is warning that the ongoing protests could contribute to the nation’s next spike in coronavirus cases.
We are praying that those fighting for change will practice social distancing requirements.
America’s national racial crisis is the manifestation of white supremacy, a virus more lethal than the coronavirus, we here at Grace and Truth ascribe to: “What would Martin Luther King Jr. do”
in the face of widespread racial oppression, massive nationwide protests and presidential leadership that is openly hostile to the very idea of black equity and citizenship.
Dr, King preached nonviolence to angry residents, but he listened intently to their painful pleas for dignity and citizenship.
King spoke truth to power like never before and we need this today as well. Dr. King traveled the nation like a man on a mission of purpose, confronting racist politicians.
Dr. King’s break with President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society was rooted in the Vietnam War’s immorally destructive redistribution of resources away from eliminating poverty and racism in service of amplifying America’s imperial presence on the world stage.
It is worth remembering, now more than ever, that King connected with what society would call infamous: Malcolm X, Black Power radical Stokely Carmichael, negotiated
with African American gang leaders from Chicago to Memphis and became an active, leader listener to a new generation of multiracial radicals who longed for the fundamental rights transformation of America’s racial and economic status quo.
But these were the people that were on the front lines of change. But, "It's our turn and our time now".
We’d do well to embrace the fact that “riots were the language of the unheard.” Dr. King eloquently argued that the racial uprising pulverizing the country during the 1960s was
the manifestation of white supremacy’s subversive hold on every aspect of American life, from public schools, housing, and health care to criminal justice, employment and domestic and foreign policy.
Let’s continue to uphold this time in relentless prayers for if we ever needed the Lord, we sure do need him now. We are praying, empowering, and engaged in all of these events because "It's our turn and it's our time now".
