Word for the day "An Expression of Leadership"
Nehemiah 1:3 (NKJV) And they said to me, “The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.” 4 So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.Nehemiah, the great leader and rebuilder of Jerusalem, is a powerful expression in the Bible of leadership, faith, and unshakable commitment. He didn't let the huge task of the long-delayed restoration of Jerusalem discourage and stop him. Nehemiah realized that it was never too late for God's people to begin the process. And it’s not too late for you today either to start your process?Nehemiah took intentional time and forceful action. His faith, wisdom, and courage kept him focused on his goal. He was determined to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. He faced undermining opposition and discord amongst his own people, but the wall of Jerusalem was still completed in just fifty-two days. An incredible expression of leadership and God! Soon after this victory, Nehemiah directed the people toward a second phase of restoration.Nehemiah called upon the great teacher leader Ezra to lead the people in a study of the Scriptures. Confronted by God's word, they were soon in tears because they could see the truth of how far they departed from God's law. Please notice they confessed their sins and the sins of their ancestors. They accepted responsibility for generations of unfaithfulness on the part of their people and grieved openly before the Lord. Leadership always senses it's not too late and believes when others give in. Do you operate in leadership? Do you have a leadership mindset?Point to ponder- As Nehemiah returned to Babylon, however, the people returned to their sinful ways. Nehemiah found himself once again putting the people of God back on a right track with God. This expression of short-term restoration shows how prone we are to drifting away from what's right if we're not held accountable.
