Word for the day "The Battle with Temptation"
James 1:14 (NKJV) But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.I have often said that it is not the trap that constitutes sin; it is the submission to the trap that is the problem. For temptation to be effective, there must be a desire on our part. (James 1:14) says, “Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.” For the Devil to succeed at tempting us, we must first listen, yield, and most importantly, desire what he offers. When I lose the fight with sin, it’s when I submit to the promptings. We can be walking along, minding our own business, when all of a sudden, some horrible or maybe even a good thought or temptation comes to mind. We are shocked that we could even think such a thing. It doesn’t mean we’ve done something wrong because we have been tempted. But it does mean we need to resist and recognize that it isn’t from God. Do you try to think thoughts through?I have seen intelligent people who know the Bible make the worst decisions imaginable under the power of sin. That is why the Bible warns us about the allure and trickery of sin. By the way at times I am one of those people, how about you? When I hear of someone who has run from God, my prayer is, “Lord, help them come to their senses. May it even happen at this moment, wherever they maybe, whatever they maybe doing.” And would you all reading this devotion right now please remember me in prayer as we stand in need of your prayers to do the work of God!Point to ponder- Sin is like a form of temporary insanity, although sometimes it isn’t so temporary. We rationalize our way through it and say the things that have been said so many other times: “I will just go so far and then stop, or I’ll never do it again.” Where are you in this message today?
