Word for the day "Appetite for the Lord"

Proverbs 27:7 (NKJV) A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.Unlike physical hunger, our appetite for God is never fully satisfied. Once we have satisfied our physical hunger we no longer want to eat, at least until we become hungry again. In fact, the sight, smell, or even the thought of food can repulse us after we have eaten our fill. Notice in (Proverbs 27:7) describes the phenomenon like this: “He who is full loathes honey, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.” Do you understand how your appetite for the Lord works? But the opposite is true with regard to our appetite for God. In the very act of satisfying it, the appetite intensifies and increases. For many men/women this may be something new and different to conceive. If you have never actively sought to cultivate your appetite for God, you may not realize how this appetite develops.Food for thought- If you have never tasted cheesecake, gone to a professional football game, or watched the sun set over the ocean, you can't really know what you're missing. Consequently, you probably don't have much of an appetite for them. It's only when you have experienced something that you realize you want more of it. This is the same process we experience in our appetite for the Lord. That's precisely why (Psalm 34:8) says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Experience for yourself that the Lord is good, and that the Lord satisfies completely. And when you do, something wonderful and life changing will happen: you will find yourself wanting more and more of God, and less and less of cheap substitutes for the Lord our God.For His Glory,Pastor James Baker, Jr.
