Word for the day: "Standing on the promises of God"
I Kings 8:56(NIV) “Praise be to the LORD, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses. 57 May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us nor forsake us.I don’t need to tell you that we live in a world that is filled with doubts and with difficulties, with uncertainties, with frustrations and fear and insecurity. The great lesson today is found in the promises of God and the need for the people of God having courage to go on. I know it can be challenging as we look at the times we live in and it reminds us of how discouraging and how depressing the news of the day can be. On the international scene, there are problems of political unrest of all sorts. There’s the continuing real threat of terrorism, and even a lingering threat of war. On the national scene, there are political scandals and corruption in our government at the highest level, and there’s economic unrest. On the local level, you know, we have the problem here locally of crime and violence just look at the painful Aurora Colorado attack. On the job, we’re faced with increasing demands. Companies are “downsizing”. Budgets are tighter. You’re being challenged to do more with less. Many of us are faced with issue of downsizing,” which is another “politically correct” word for saying that you’re being laid off or fired. (In my case 8, 500 of my fellow union brothers and sisters are locked out of work by our employer for 4 weeks now just sad stuff) And with all of this, the requirements and the demands seem to increase. Even at home, we’re often faced with difficult things; things that make for difficult times, even within our families. I am sure there are some married people, single parent people, single people without children, and blended family members, shaking their heads right now because life is just not easy! All of these things, and more, tend to keep us “off balance”, keep us on sort of an “unsure footing” in our individual lives. It’s often difficult to get solid footing, to get a good basis, if you will allow me to say it this way, to “stand upon”. Well, in light of these things that I have just reminded you about, let’s consider, once again, the title and the words of today’s word “Standing on the Promises of God.” These are God’s Words reaching out into unfilled time to base a future of hope between Him and I; between Him and you. Please hear my heart and message from the Lord in this hour!I submit to you that when our footing is firm, our foundation to stand upon and our security is solid! In this world of doubt, confusion, difficulty and uncertainty and insecurity, we have the promises of God to stand upon. You can have confidence in Gods promises based on His past performance in your life and based on His track record. Have a great day!Elder Baker
